Reason and Record work great via ReWire with ProTools, Logic, Ableton Live, Cubase, and any DAW with ReWire support. Furthermore, Record’s Bounce Mixer Channels feature easily and quickly exports your stems for import into another DAW. (Neither of our comments will be axed.)
@ChatterFreeze It comes with the Propellerhead Record software.
@line6movies hahahha def don’t wanna turn this into a “my DAW is better than your DAW” discussion, heaven knows there’s enough of those, just trying to answer an overly generalized question. Respeck, my friend. Cool videos.
sky’s the limit
how did you hook up your guitar to the computer??
Thanks jonQuest82!
@chrisw142 I connected it to my Line 6 audio interface (Line 6 UX 1 was used for this video), although any professional audio interface with an instrument input could be used. The audio interface connects to the computer via USB. For more info, please search for my video called: How to Record a Song – Part 1: Set Up
@line6movies thanks! i will!

Search CWLeMusic for music made on reason
Chris, I just recently made the switch from live HW synths (nord, juno etc) to an Akai MPK88 and A dedicated reason/record laptop. Its been the best decision i’ve made in a while and i’ve been using record to do real time vocoding, and guitar etc… to get to the point i’ve been trying to surprise the guys at rehearsal using my guitar as a synth and thanks to this clear tutorial and simple instruction I can – rock on and your music kicks butt, too!
sorry Matt *not Chris
@disasterpiecemusic Thanks for a great comment that put a smile on my face!
@antagony69 Thanks!
Can you please email me a guitar patch?
This is going wayyyyyy over my head.
cool video and nice info peace
I’ve been a first hour Reason User but I never really considered using the Malström like this. Awesome idea.
This I must test myself. Great tip! =)

Cool video : ) Reason is really a great program, i like it. Lots of nice plugins and its good that you can use it with other programs , like cubase etc. If you want to listen to some really good electronic music you can check my channel and have a listen if you feel like it : )
is it possible to play live guitar in reason with my guitar hooked up to the mic input on my computer with an auxillary cable?
Very nice sounds. Does the guitar have to be recorded to use the synths with it? Or can you do this live, while playing? I do LIve Looping and am interested in the approach of using Reason as a multi effects for guitar and/or voice during gigs.
@Treflex If you have the latest version of Reason (Reason 6), then yes. However, the mic input on your computer, while it will work, may not sound perfect because it is not optimized for guitar. The sound may be distorted or noisy. Worth a try, though! (I was using a Line 6 audio interface that had a dedicated guitar input.)
@Loopcyclemusic Thanks – glad you like the sounds! No, the guitar does not have to be recorded – you can play it live. For the video, I used previously recorded guitar because then I could use my mouse to adjust parameters without having to play guitar at the same time.
@line6movies awesome, it works! hehe yeah might not be…live rig-worthy, but fun to play around with
